Custom styling your car? Car shows in Middletown NY? Mud truck? We can!
Want to make your vehicle stand out and perform better? Enhance your ride with custom wheels. The wheels you choose depend on your vehicle's use and driving conditions. For instance, you can increase the size of your wheels for off-road driving or add spinning rims for cruising around town. No matter your needs, talk to our professionals and we will give you custom wheel options.
What type of custom wheels do you want?
Aluminum Alloy Wheels: Light-weight and strong, these wheels improve performance, handling, and gas mileage. They also make your ride look cool and come in a finish that's right for you.
Forged Aluminum Wheels: Very light weight is possible because forged aluminum is stronger, stiffer, and can be made in lighter weight designs. Forged aluminum is less porous and has a more dense grain structure. It is generally not affected by weather as much as cast aluminum. Much better for high end performance vehicles or high luxury. Reduced unsprung weight is the goal of the best custom wheel applications.
Magnesium: Very rare, this special metal is about the lightest metal wheel design. It is for summer use only, magnesium is easily corroded. Very light weight, it was an option on Callaway Corvettes and other ultra high performance cars.
Cabon fiber: Most know this from the Koenisegg cars, their wheel is about 13lbs, extreemly light for a 280 mph wheel. The Ford Shelby GT350 has carbon wheels. Rev wheels are available in one piece carbon.
Custom Steel Wheels: Heavier than aluminum, these wheels are perfect for off-road driving and heavy-duty work. These strong wheels improve vehicle stability and come with finish options.
After choosing your wheels, pick a finish. Common options include: polished, painted, powder-coated, or chrome plated finish. Feel free to ask one of our professionals which finish best suits your needs.
Give us a call and let our experts guide you to custom wheels to improve your car's looks and your driving experience.

Why Brakes pads? Middletown NY 10940 How brakes work and what the problems may be at dolsontire.com

Brake Service

Brake Service
Our ASE-certified technicians take professionalism to the next level by offering courteous and knowledgeable service to all of our customers. Continually striving to master every aspect of automotive care, ASE technicians follow Motorist Assurance Program Uniform Inspection Guidelines for your vehicle's braking system to assure safe, smooth driving.
When your mechanic is wearing the ASE patch, don't expect to get to know him—you won't be back in a long time! That's because our ASE technicians do the job right the first time. They inspect the following braking components:
Disc Brakes
  • $69 Brake Pads are an economical choice for people on a budget
  • Disc brake rotors and pads in premium OEM quality cost more but perform properly
  • Calipers and hardware can restore a brake system to like new performance
Drum Brakes:
  • Brake drums and shoes
  • Wheel cylinders
  • Return springs
Parking Brake:
  • Cables
Hydraulic System:
  • Master cylinder
  • Brake fluid and hose flushing to remove old worn fluids and debris
  • Power booster replacement
Your vehicle's brake system is a culmination of over 100 years of technological innovation, transforming crude stopping mechanisms into dependable and efficient equipment. While brake systems vary by make and model, the basic system consists of disc brakes in front and either disk or drum brakes in back. Connected by a series of tubes and hoses, your brakes link to each wheel and to the master cylinder, which supply them with vital brake fluid (hydraulic fluid).
We can summarize all of your braking equipment into two categories, Hydraulics and Friction Material:
Hydraulics
Master Cylinder:
The master cylinder is like a pressure converter. When you press down on the brake pedal (physical pressure), the master cylinder converts this to hydraulic pressure, and brake fluid moves into the wheel brakes.
Brake Lines and Hoses:
Brake lines hoses deliver pressurized brake fluid to the braking unit(s) at each wheel.
Wheel Cylinders and Calipers:
Wheel Cylinders surrounded by two rubber-sealed pistons connect the piston with the brake shoe. Push the brakes and the pistons stop and the shoes pushes into the drum. Calipers squeeze brake pads onto the rotor to stop your car. Both components apply pressure to friction materials.
Friction Materials
Disc Brake Pads and Drum Brake Shoes:
A disc brake uses fluid (released by the master cylinder) to force pressure into a caliper, where it presses against a piston. The piston then squeezes two brake pads against the rotor, forcing it to stop. Brake shoes consist of a steel shoe with friction material bonded to it.
How It Comes Together:
When you first step on the brake pedal, you are triggering the release of brake fluid into the system of tubes and hoses, which travel to the braking unit at each wheel. You actually push against a plunger in the master cylinder, releasing fluid. Brake fluid can't be compressed. It moves through the network of tubes and hoses in the exact same motion and pressure that initiated it. When it comes to stopping a heavy steel machine at high speed, this consistency is a good thing. The performance of your brakes can be affected when air gets into the fluid; since air can compress, it creates sponginess in the pedal, which disrupts consistency, and results in bad braking efficiency. "Bleeder screws" (located at each wheel cylinder) remove unwanted air in your system.
A car without functioning brakes is dangerous. In many cases, warning signs will tell you if your car's brakes may need service.
Warning signs include:
  • Squealing or grinding noises when using brakes. This could mean your brakes need to be adjusted or that your brake pads are worn and need replacement.
  • Your dashboard's Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) light turns on. This indicates that your brake fluid is low. You may have a leak in your brake line. Get it inspected.
  • While braking, your car pulls to one side. This means that your brakes need adjustment, there is brake fluid leakage, or your brakes are worn out and need replacement.
  • Your brakes are hard to press down or feel "spongy." Usually this means air has gotten into your brake lines or you may have low brake fluid.
  • When applying your brakes, your steering wheel, brake pedal, or entire vehicle begins to shake. If this happens, your brake rotors could be warped and need replacement.
When you notice any brake warning signs, contact our professional staff by phone, or email, immediately and we'll take care of it. Dolson Auto & Tire 178 Dolson Ave Middletown NY 10940 845-343-6300 www.DolsonTire.com

Fuel Prices are going up, save this trick in Middletown NY

Service to Improve Fuel Economy

Jan 9th, 2017
http://washentireauto.autotipsblog.com/2017/01/09/service-to-improve-fuel-economy#sthash.VAVgPWzy.hpvt
The price of gas in New York has got people in Middletown NY talking.
It seems that Middletown NY folks who need a bigger vehicle to carry family and gear,
or provide four wheel drive, are hit especially hard. That is why we thought it would be good to review some things that anyone can do to improve fuel economy.

First let's start with how we drive around New York. People in Middletown NY may not realize that they can really save on gas by just changing a few driving habits.
One of the biggest is jackrabbit starts - you know, flooring the gas as soon as the light turns green. That really wastes a lot of fuel. Building up your speed at a slower
pace uses less fuel and is easier on your engine and drive train. And don't drive with one foot on the brake. That's also a drag on fuel economy, and it wears out your
brakes faster too.

Another thing Middletown NY drivers can do is drive slower - but only when it's safe. Sometimes on the freeway we drive an extra five ... ten . . . twenty ... over the speed limit.
We do it to save time, but it only saves a few minutes out of maybe an hour long drive, and we may use 10 to 15 % more gas. Just leave a little bit earlier, save some money and
arrive more relaxed.

Middletown NY drivers can also try and combine all of their errands for the day into just one trip, rather than several. If you can put off a trip today that can be combined with one
tomorrow - you can save some time and money.

Using your cruise control can save money too. Driving in New York at a constant speed really improves fuel economy. Be sure to only use your cruise control under safe
conditions - you can look in your owner's manual for some good tips on using your cruise control.

Did you know that reducing the weight in your vehicle saves gas? Clean out the trunk or back seat from time to time so that you are not paying to carry a lot of stuff around
Middletown NY that you do not need in the car. If you live in New York where there is snow and ice, clear it off your car. They add weight and messes with aerodynamics too.

Another tip is to avoid long idle times, which includes warming it up when you start. Modern engines do not require a long warm up to get going - just take it easy for a couple of miles.

Be sure to get a new gas cap if yours leaks or is worn.

Now, let's start talking mechanical. Bottom line - the better you maintain your vehicle, the less fuel you will use. It all adds up in a big way. For example, replacing your dirty engine
air filter will pay for itself in improved fuel economy before your next oil change - and will keep saving you after that.

A clean, well-maintained fuel system really pays big dividends. A clogged fuel filter wastes gas. So does a dirty fuel system, grimy fuel injectors and plugged up PCV valves. A fuel system
service decreases the gas you use, and increases the power - so drivers in Middletown NY can't go wrong with that.

Some of us ignore our Check Engine light. But fixing the problem that caused the light to come on will usually save some fuel as well. It may be a bad oxygen sensor that can really
rob your fuel economy.

And, it may be time for a tune-up. Tune-ups should improve your fuel economy. Don't overlook the routine maintenance items, like scheduled oil changes, transmission and cooling system service. Dirty or low fluids actually use more fuel. Just look at your vehicle manufacturer's recommended service intervals in the owner's manual, or ask your Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire service advisor for the schedule.

Don't forget your tires. Under-inflated tires waste gas. And if your wheels are out of alignment you won't get the fuel economy you need.

None of these things are very complicated or expensive for people in Middletown NY to stay on top of. When you maintain your car properly, you save gas today, and prevent repairs tomorrow.

New School: Automotive Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire Technician Training

Feb 14th, 2017
Middletown NY consumers are demanding. We want a safe, reliable vehicle that handles well and is comfortable to ride in. Oh, and we want good fuel economy, too. We also want car repairs that are cheap, fast and easy. Unfortunately, one usually comes at the cost of the other.

Today's vehicles have made significant improvements in reliability and performance over the last few decades. They also deliver more power to Middletown NY drivers more efficiently than ever before. For example, some of today's 4 cylinder engines are equal to yesterday's V-8's. Our vehicles also offer an amazing range of features that make them more comfortable and convenient than ever before.

But all of that improvement has come at a price for Middletown NY vehicle owners. Our vehicles are more complicated and difficult to repair than ever before. They have numerous mechanical and electrical systems. Fuel systems are so complex they have to be run by a computer. Our vehicles are covered with sensors and high-tech electronic equipment. Our dashboards rival the control panel of the first manned space flight.

With all that complicated equipment, it's no wonder we call mechanics service technicians these days. You can't learn to repair cars in the backyard with your dad anymore. Today's Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire technicians have to go to school. School may come in the form of classroom instruction, on-line courses or both. Technicians are also trained on-site at the Middletown NY service centers where they work (including Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire) to keep them abreast of constant improvements in vehicle engineering, diagnostic equipment and repair techniques.

Today's technicians at http://www.DolsonTire.com need to be certified to work on our vehicles. They can earn a variety of certifications in New York, but the highest of these is Master Technician. It's like a graduate degree in auto repair.

Vehicle repair at Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire in Middletown NY requires more than just training and certification, though. It also takes information and creative thought. Middletown NY area auto service centers subscribe to data services, technical libraries and on-line repair communities in order to get the information they need to work on various makes and models of vehicles, to get recommended maintenance schedules, to learn about non-standard features, and even to locate hard-to-find parts in an unusual engine. They also use this information to help diagnose rare or difficult vehicle problems. Many auto repair problems also require a bit of creative thinking for the team at Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire to solve. Middletown NY service technicians at Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire act much like doctors in these situations. They're given a set of symptoms, and they have to come up with a diagnosis and treatment that will fix the problem. This process becomes as much of an art as it is a science.

A proper diagnosis, even by a highly qualified technician, can take time. And a technician's time is going to cost us. It's just the price of progress.

Of course, the best car care for Middletown NY vehicle owners is planned preventive auto maintenance. This is also the least way to keep your vehicle in good repair. Regular inspections and replacement of worn parts will prevent most repairs from ever being needed in the first place.

And with the amazing complexity of today's automobiles, isn't it good to know there's someone out there with the knowledge, training and skill to give us good auto advice? Whether we need preventive maintenance or repairs, the team of automotive professionals at Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire can help us keep our vehicles on the road. We just can't do it on our own anymore.

Car hacking Really interesting discussion , in Middletown NY it is possible. New cars have more access points.

Adventures in Automotive Control Units Networks and By Dr. Charlie Miller & Chris Valasek
Introduction
Automobiles are no longer just mechanical devices. Today's automobiles contain a
number of different electronic components networked together that as a whole are
responsible for monitoring and controlling the state of the vehicle. Each component,
from the Anti-Lock Brake module to the Instrument Cluster to the Telematics module,
can communicate with neighboring components. Modern automobiles contain upwards
of 50 electronic control units (ECUs) networked together. The overall safety of the
vehicle relies on near real time communication between these various ECUs. While
communicating with each other, ECUs are responsible for predicting crashes, detecting
skids, performing anti-lock braking, etc.
When electronic networked components are added to any device, questions of the
robustness and reliability of the code running on those devices can be raised. When
physical safety is in question, as in the case of the automobile, code reliability is even a
more important and practical concern. In typical computing environments, like a
desktop computer, it is possible to easily write scripts or applications to monitor and
adjust the way the computer runs. Yet, in highly computerized automobiles, there is no
easy way to write applications capable of monitoring or controlling the various
embedded systems. Drivers and passengers are strictly at the mercy of the code
running in their automobiles and, unlike when their web browser crashes or is
compromised, the threat to their physical well-being is real.
Some academic researchers, most notably from the University of Washington and the
University of California San Diego [http://www.autosec.org/publications.html] have
already shown that it is possible for code resident in some components of an
automobile to control critical systems such as the computerized displays and locks as
well as the automobile's braking. Furthermore, they have shown that such malicious
code might be injected by an attacker with physical access to the vehicle or even
remotely over Bluetooth or the telematics unit. They demonstrated that there is a real
threat not only of accidental failure of electronic automobile systems, but there is even a
threat of malicious actions that could affect the safety of automotive systems. However,
their research was meant to only show the existence of such threats. They did not
release any code or tools. In fact, they did not even reveal the model of automobile
they studied.
Besides discussing new attacks, this paper aims to bring accessibility to automotive
systems to security researchers in an open and transparent way. Currently, there is no
easy way to write custom software to monitor and interact with the ECUs in modern
automobiles. The fact that a risk of attack exists but there is not a way for researchers
to monitor or interact with the system is distressing. This paper is intended to provide a
framework that will allow the construction of such tools for automotive systems and to
demonstrate the use on two modern vehicles. This framework will allow researchers to
demonstrate the threat to automotive systems in a concrete way as well as write
monitoring and control applications to help alleviate this threat.
"As more wireless access features open in newer cars, self driving type cars become an area of major concern" says the ASE Master Technician at Dolson tire and auto repair in Middletown NY. The threat of an open code error in software is becoming so large. manufacturers do not know if there is a exploit because the code is too long to understand in total until the vehicle is already on the road. This makes software updates important.
