How would you get the transmission bolt out in this car?

MIDDLETOWN N.Y.-

Notice that bolt right in the center of the photo to the right of the rusty vent on top of the transfer case housing, not the one right behind the vent, a little further and down in that pocket? In the shadows - ahhh now you see it if you are AUTO-technically inclined you know this means many hours of work and a long day ahead.

It's not so easy every day. Some days are really tough when your engine or transmission fails on the road. AAA towing can help. Then we fix the engine and your back on the road again.

But sometimes it takes more, never mind rust and corrosion issues, there is always something that makes a one day job turn into two or three. This all wheel drive vehicle had a timing belt fail. The owner did not follow the owners manual and the belt was declined for replacement at the proper mileage. Putting things off can cost you - the engineer who designed the engine didnt just make up the service requirements. They base their requirements on actual data.
<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script> <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-6178000753050891", enable_page_level_ads: true }); </script>
That procrastination cost many times more than a timing belt replacement. For a few hundred dollars or more we replace the timing belts and bring these engines up to their maintenance requirements. Keeping your systems up to date is critical to preventing problems and actually saving money.

Contact us to bring your vehicle up to date with a comprehensive service package and save. If your car dealer had quoted you on maintenance bring us the estimate and we can often save you hundreds in discounts.

Why Carl Icahn feels this about auto repair serv....

Middletown NY-
Carl Icahn was a topic in a recent Bloomberg article by David Welch where Welch cites Icahns reasons for bets on his investments. We have high regard for the knowledge of and expertise of both.  https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-08/carl-icahn-the-car-guy-why-he-bets-on-hertz-lyft-and-pep-boys
One of those bets is how Icahn Enterprises is buying up small mom and pop shops to make them into chain stores to service self driving fleets for self driving car owners such as Lyft drivers. Carl presumably states that he needs chain stores to service the fleets and check them for mechanical breakdowns. His thinking is that diagnosing these vehicles will require expertise.
What went wrong?
<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script> <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-6178000753050891", enable_page_level_ads: true }); </script>

Industry experts, automotive trainers, and specialists all know that this strategy has a hole in it. Why? Local repair shops have always done much better at diagnosing difficult electrical problems and repairs than chain stores. While locally owned mom and pops may participate in franchises such as Goodyear and AAA Repair centers, when there is a local expert who also owns it the wealth of knowledge and experience is far greater than what is typically found in any chain store.
A large department store is an example of this, they struggle to maintain an age of professional technicians who have the knowledge to properly repair any vehicle. There are many, but suffice to say any reader who actually gets their car fixed knows that local mom and pop repair shops are far better than chain stores at fixing cars and in most cases lower priced and better value in many ways than car dealers as well.
The reasons are vast and many but think about it this way - a mom and pop repair shops sees more complex problems due to age, and mom and pop repair shops typically have a average vehicle age of their customer base in the 10 year range and over 150,000 miles. New Car dealers typically see 5 to 7 year ages and less than 100,000 miles. Chain stores with young teams typically have little experience or desire to understand complex difficult problems and lack the experience to deal with or diagnose them. Your local mechanic has literally seen it all and given the time will figure it out at a lower overall cost to restore the system. They also focus on properly restoring the car so problems are completely repaired. Where as chain may be incentivized to make targets and bonus over output. Its understandable to see that large companies are focused on making money, as large investors want the maximum gain possible.

These opinions are expressed by the writer of this article and may not be those of the company mentioned herein.

TPMS light and temperature

how TPMS works in Middletown NY
Pressure and Temperature effect on tire lights - why now? Here is the answer to fix your problem.... Middletown NY Now that some cooler or cold weather has finally arrived in the Middletown NY area drivers suddenly are flocking to their local independent mechanic and tire shops to find out why? Why is my TPMS Tire Light on? Some may have new tires, or old tires, but over and over this happens? Let consider the most common issue this time of year and how to fix it for free!
<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script> <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-6178000753050891", enable_page_level_ads: true }); </script> The combined law of gasses states pV=k5T. Basically in the case of most tire light conditions related to temperature during weather changes the number of molecules of gas in the tire are constant or approximately so but T temperature goes down therefore pressure will drop in the tire. Essentially for every 10 degree temperature drop in the Hudson Valley the tire will loose about 1 psi of pressure.
So now lets understand that different manufacturers may have different TPMS light thresholds. Some Hybrid cars for example trigger the light when only 2 psi out of range. So if your tires were installed on a 70 degree day, the TPMS light will go off when it drops below 50 degrees. Right now the temperature has changed a lot - and this cuases many people with tires in Middletown to need their tires checked at Dolson Discount Tire at 178 Dolson Ave Middletown NY 10940

You may not have a leak, but you might have cold feet! Simply stop in your local repair shop for a check, If you are more than a few PSI low, you should have it checked for any place the air could be coming out. Thanks for reading! http://www.DolsonTire.com

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TPMS RESET FUNCTIONS WATCH OUR VIDEO AT https://dolsontire.com/service-description.htm?id=54618&name=tpms-service

Fwd: Subaru will not start, towing to

Middletown, NY -

Fuel pumps go bad. It just happens, right? But why, that's what good mechanics want to find, the root of the problems.

You know what has not changed with new cars? Preventive maintenance. Following a schedule, repairing things before they cause problems is the key to avoiding tow trucks.

In this case the fuel filter was plugged and blew out part of the fuel pump system as seen here. Can you spot the point of failure?

If you know what to look for you can see that a backup of flow causes higher than specified pressure. That high pressure caused damage to a part inside the fuel tank mounted pump assembly.

If that fuel system was maintained this may not have broken down on the road or I-84 near Middletown NY. We can bring your car up to it's maintenance schedule today, it's usually not a lengthy and much less in price than a breakdown. www.doksontire.com

Alignment Lifted Trucks 4x4

Middletown NY-

4 wheel drive trucks and SUV vehicles require additional time and work to properly bring the tires relationship with the surface into specification.

Different lift kits available for many trucks in stock at everything from low prices to the best engineered brands require careful consideration when it comes to installation and alignment.

Here at Dolson Auto we are re setting an alignment gone wrong, where the chain store had not only forgotten a few steps but damaged the key pin required to retain the cams. Once the pin is missing from the control arm brackets (because it was hammered out with possibly an air hammer?) a new pin would have to be fabricated and welded in. Fortunately there are two pins, one on each side of the bracket saving this client some cost unless the one pin cant hold the cam steady over time.

We repaired what could be done and reset every angle using Tru-align plate systems coupled with Hunter alignment sensors. Removing rust is a common issue and often these bolts are rusted and stuck. Once loose we oil them to make it easier and resist rust in the future (for the next guy).

Setting lifted trucks is an art and practice as much as science. Often some period of testing and adjustments is required to balance driveability with what the manufacturer wants and real world road feel. Tire life may be a trade off with some drivers desired specifications. Occasionally lifted trucks have thrust line issues and the steering wheel may need to be reset .

A professional alignment technician will charge for his time by the hour and that's a fair method, after all most people get paid by the hour and on these trucks it may go quickly or it may take time, no one knows until they complete the work. Most will not offer a warranty on custom alignment because these vehicles might get used for their design purpose. Dolson offers a warranty that they will re check and ensure the desired specifications are good for 30 days, by the end of that time you will have enough wheel time to know it feels good! They want you to be happy and if your Jeep or Humvee needs alignment check out www.dolsontire.com
<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script> <script> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({ google_ad_client: "ca-pub-6178000753050891", enable_page_level_ads: true }); </script>

Window tint law in NY? What is the scoop with ....

Even the lightest tints seem to be unable to pass the new NY State Tin Law Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law  - which does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window effective Jan 1, 2017.

Not only can you receive a ticket by an officer, but also it will not be able to pass inspection. Due to the factory windows on most cars having a tint that varies by brand it has been difficult to find a tint that falls below blocking 30% of visible light. Anything with mirror is definitely out. Fades are also not going to pass, the entire window must be clear.

Why cant a shop pass you? Well, new inspection machines have video camera's but more importantly than that, would you like to loose your job or license over someone else breaking the law? The fines could be horrendous but its possible even greater trouble and hassle could be heading your way, after all asking an officer to break the law is a crime in itself.

If you had an incident and the police look further into the matter its possible they may account for the time of the last inspection. Officers have told us at this time its not a top priority to go looking for tinted windows, but keep in mind having tints looks great - its a nice attractive appearance for sure! But remember the way an officer feels as he approaches a car with tints. That officer is worried about his family, life, and his career - how would you feel approaching a car you knew was already braking a law with a device designed to conceal the interior or occupants? You would be concerned too and that's the point of the NY tint law - safety.

Our peace officers of NY State are here to help and they do great work, lets do our part to help them and keep the peace.

Great auto repair shops in Middletown NY

Mechanic near me? There are few choices in the area but try this.

-Middletown NY

Near Middletown NY there are few choices for auto repair. When you need brakes, maintenance services, steering, radiator, engine, suspension, electrical, or diagnostic services where can you go that offers you a great overall service?

What to look for when choosing an auto repair center?

Many auto repair centers focus on few things. There are muffler shops who dabble. Brake shops who are limited. Engine or transmission guys who just want the biggest baddest jobs and are not tuned to your needs. But general repair independent shops that also carry tires and offer service and maintenance? These are the guys who are there to help you the most.

Why?

Local independents offer wider variety of experience and services on older and higher mileage vehicles out of the dealer warranty period. These shops also fix many other things, often offer services and repairs such as welding (they even weld lawn mowers sometimes for a neighbor!). So for real one stop shopping where you can have a relationship its worth not having to bounce around.

Why should I have a primary care provider?

Unlike today's medical practices where some put you with a different person each time, you want a dedicated shop for all your repairs. This way the guy knows what they have seen in the past, how things are progressing, how your needs are at this time, and can have a conversation with you. Its more perfect than any other way of buying auto repair. Hey, you are going to need them someday, keep that relationship on an even keel.

Some choices like these below are examples of local people who have great experiences at www.dolsontire.com in Middletown NY and here is why, read on about these drivers 5 star experinces:

Gina

Joe went above and beyond. He made sure my vehicle was safe before a long road trip, expedited the parts , and made me feel confident i was getting the best service and pricing . i will be returning ! Thank you
While there is always the possibility people mis understand technical matters or confuse prices its easily resolved by talking and explaining what you wanted instead of loosing your cool. Sometimes you may want a minimal repair and these shops can always offer you a solution with many different parts, levels of warranty and other things that can lower the price or fully restore the system.

The right way to fix a vehicle if you plan to keep it or even sell it to anyone you may know is to restore a worn system. Some drivers simply cant afford restoration and thats fine too. But restoration has its benefits - much longer warranty, nationwide warranty, and generally perfect performance from the newly restored system. You generally will not have any issues with a restored system for as long as it lasted or more than the first time.

Great customer service. I'll definitely go back to this place.

So the best advice is pick a local independent mechanic in Middletown NY such as Dolson Auto & Tire who offers a nationwide warranty, zero percent extended financing, stands behind the services, can arrange many options from low cost to best quality, and can adjust to fit your budget and time. Plus each service comes with a free car wash and offers upgrades to interior cleaning so in one stop you can get it all done right and looking good. Where ever you go trust your local certified auto service center and Goodyear National Dealer Network locations. Across the USA offering more coverage at AAA Certified locations such as Dolson Auto & Tire - you can be sure you will have a personal service representative who can resolve any concerns you have with your cars issues.

Everyone in the shop is fantastic! Needed new tires and was afraid of the cost (living on a tight budget). Ryan was able to find an affordable option for me and took care of it in no time. Thanks to him, I feel safe and didn't kill my budget. I'll be coming back for anything that my car needs. Great experience! Highly recommend!

Preparing machined gasket surfaces

-by dolsontire.com

When engineers design components for engines, drive line, transmission, or other critical sealed surfaces they calculate how wide, how much pressure, and how the gasket materials used will interact with their design in order to optimize the fitness of the system.

During the repair process many technicians spend a great deal of energy preparing surfaces. It is often the case the uninformed make this serious repair technician error.

The use of pneumatic tools with abrasives is a well known risk to the longevity of the repair. Lets explore why any casting, whether cast iron, aluminum, alloys, plastics and more may suffer from the overzealous inexperienced hand.

Tools that spin with abrasives on them can remove a great deal of gasket, and most unfortunately metal during the cleaning process. Because these tools are round discs, they are most likely to remove uneven amounts of material. Because they spin around and must be held at an angle they will never be perfectly square with the surface.

Another consideration is the required finish. While its best to look it up in your machinists handbook, a fine texture flat file is a good choice.

Use a chemical to soften the gasket material and clean the surfaces. Then while the chemical is acting, use a plastic scraper or plastic razor blade to remove the old gasket materials without affecting the original surfaces. In extreme cases use the chemical again with a brass brush that will not scratch up the surface to remove stubborn gasket glued to the surface.

Then use the flat file with just a few even pressured light strokes in one direction, then turn 90 degrees and a few more, and so on. Just enough to clean the surface.

When experienced you will see this removes the high spots around bolt bosses where clamping torque can be limited and quickly shows you the low spots if any. Use a machinists straight edge or granite block to check the flatness. If the casting is within specifications you are ready for the next step of assembly.

If not, you may have to send it to a competent machinist to restore the perfect finish, replace the part, or if you are good enough, flat file more and check the flatness again.

This is how we do it, you may have your preferences. We fixed a few engines over the years where the other shop or dealer tech said he had always used a "whizzer and I never had a problem before!" at least that he knew of. Its an expensive mistake to let a job go with a possible error. The job may run for a while but eventually fails due to the loss of gasket compression. Its worth sending the job to a competent shop or educating yourself and passing the ASE Engine Machinists exams. If you need any assistance in Middletown NY contact us on our web site or watch these videos about engines here engine educational video

EVAP check engine light on, small leak found at Dolson Auto & Tire Middletown NY. We can use various methods and test equipment to pinpoint problems that cause MIL lights (Malfunction Indicator Light) to come on. Commonly called a Check Engine Light (or CEL) this dashboard indicator warns the driver that a problem that may cause damage, high emissions, or other issues is beginning or present and has been detected through various tests or Monitors your vehicle performs while you drive.

These monitors are looking for certain conditions and often they retest and test again until they are pretty sure they have a code. We use things like special tools to access Mode 6 data, PID data, and actual electrical streaming data between components, sensors, oxygen sensors, devices, PCM, ECM, modules, computers and many other devices (there are hundreds of them in modern cars). Since we know how these systems actually work, we can scientifically identify the main causes and interactions and determine the root of the issue, or in the case of some multiple contributing factors or collateral damage.

The environment is a major cause of electrical problems in cars. Winter, salt, acid rain, moisture, and condensation are often creating corrosion on components. Sometimes dirt, oils getting where they should not be, silicone, and even lightning or crossover electrical charges and shorts. We even frequently fix problems caused by mice and rodents. One time a mud wasp next was found on an electrical terminal, we determined the mud even though it was dry was a conductor causing a mild short. Surprisingly we were right! We removed the mud wasp nest cleaned it up and the problem was fixed.

J2534 reflash Chevy

Here we have a Chevrolet TrailBlazer. The customer requests a reflash to update the power train.

Some GM cars and trucks have had driveability issues, codes, and drive train control problems. Owners report poor transmission shifting, 4wd selection, performance, and codes that prevent them from passing inspection.

Here is a short video clip of our reflash by connecting the vehicle to GM's servers and download/upload into the vehicle the latest versions of software.

When completed the instructions require a clear codes and road test. It takes about an hour to do the job.

Fwd: Kia service notice

KIA issues notice suggesting owners wash the undercarriage of their cars
-by Dolson Auto & Tire, Middletown NY

KIA and Hyundai has had some issues with rusty suspension bolts and parts
due to road salts. It is best to keep the undercarriage clean on all new cars.
But what should you do and how often? The attached image
details some corrective measures KIA and Hyundai dealers may
perform on a recall service bulletin.

Visiting a tunnel car wash where jets mounted in the concrete spray
fresh water and corrosion inhibiting waxes can help. When vehicles are
serviced they should be inspected for rusted brake lines, bolts, and
suspension parts.

You could also go to your dealer for a free no charge recall. Dont pay for
the service at the dealership, its free. You may be asked to pay for optional
services, its best to simply say give me an estimate and I will
look into it - this way you can consult with your significant other or bring
the estimate to us for a competitive price on auto repairs.

At Dolson Auto & Tire we provide full service and repairs, extended warranty
repairs for many insurance plans, new tires, and we have a fine car wash next
door. When you think of auto repairs near Middletown NY think of our AAA
Certified Repair Center right on Dolson Ave.

Image result for green tires

Image result for green tiresGreen Tires? In Middletown NY there are a few examples of green tires. While not tied to St. Patricks Day, technically the definition of a "green tire" is a tire that has been assembled on a tire production line but not yet molded. The green tire after assembly goes to the steam pressure molding process.
However there are green tires that have been made! While not very popular, white rubber can be colored green and made into tires. However without carbon black these tires may be missing some of the properties the carbon black can give them to enhance durability and stability. Michelin and other manufacturers have made green colored tires even for bicycles. These Michelin tires seen here are a very high quality product.
The green tires we offer are called green because they use more environmentally conscious ingredients and offer low rolling resistance saving energy. See www.dolsontire.com for more

Mudder tires in the SNOW? Mud and crawling tires are great....

Tire Blog at Dolson Tire & Auto Middletown NY

When you see mud tires "Mudders" for short - you think TRACTION! Right?
When you see CRAWLING tires or Rock Crawlers you think TRACTION? Right? FUN!
But when you see these treads - do you know what they are designed for?

Mud tires or offroad traction tires are purpose engineered for certain types of surfaces with special characteristics. There are many designs with specialized applications. Sand traction is different than loamy soil and different than clay and different than stumps and different than ooooozzy mud.... there are many types of traction. These aggressive tires also have special rubber compounds for these surfaces. In some conditions you want a stiffer compound, in some cases soft and grippy. It all depends on the purpose. 4x4 experts take this into account. If looks are your main reason for a mudder tire then the performance may not matter to you.

But mud tires have one thing in common - they are not designed for snow. Mud tires may look aggressive but snow and ice is another different animal altogether.

For snow and ice you need a traction tire with sipes, low temperature rubber, lots of blades, in some cases side treads can help as well. These plow tires for 4x4 trucks are often in the all terrain class, not really mud. They may look aggressive, but not as open as a mud tire. They have more blades and angles, usually more different sizes of blocks, less void ratio than a mud tire. An example of a popular plowing tire is the Goodyear Duratrac. Many plowing guys use them. The Duratrac tire has metal stud holes for maximum ice grip (dont plow someone who loves their driveway with metal studs - they will scratch up the surface). The traction is relied upon by many county and state government light pickup truck plows and local drivers with plows on their pick up trucks. There are many other brands that are similar hybrid all terrain to near mud terrain tires but have the many sipes you need for snow and ice conditions. Dick Cepek FC-II, Cooper ST Maxx are just a few choices.

Size - for snow do not go wider without good reasons. You want to get down to the surface, That's what you are plowing for. So that's where you should seek your traction as well. Use an oem size or consider weight, width, rim size, and design. Many prefer to use a narrower taller tire with the same or higher weight rating at the correct pressure for the purpose.

I hope you enjoy this article on snow tires vs mud tires for plowing. Come see us at Dolson Tire & Auto for tires, repairs, and service on your plow trucks near Middletown NY. Enjoy!

Want to make your vehicle stand out and perform better? Enhance your ride with custom wheels. The wheels you choose depend on your vehicle's use and driving conditions. For instance, you can increase the size of your wheels for off-road driving or add spinning rims for cruising around town. No matter your needs, talk to our professionals and we will give you custom wheel options.
What type of custom wheels do you want?
Aluminum Alloy Wheels: Light-weight and strong, these wheels improve performance, handling, and gas mileage. They also make your ride look cool and come in a finish that's right for you.
Forged Aluminum Wheels: Very light weight is possible because forged aluminum is stronger, stiffer, and can be made in lighter weight designs. Forged aluminum is less porous and has a more dense grain structure. It is generally not affected by weather as much as cast aluminum. Much better for high end performance vehicles or high luxury. Reduced unsprung weight is the goal of the best custom wheel applications.
Magnesium: Very rare, this special metal is about the lightest metal wheel design. It is for summer use only, magnesium is easily corroded. Very light weight, it was an option on Callaway Corvettes and other ultra high performance cars.
Cabon fiber: Most know this from the Koenisegg cars, their wheel is about 13lbs, extreemly light for a 280 mph wheel. The Ford Shelby GT350 has carbon wheels. Rev wheels are available in one piece carbon.
Custom Steel Wheels: Heavier than aluminum, these wheels are perfect for off-road driving and heavy-duty work. These strong wheels improve vehicle stability and come with finish options.
After choosing your wheels, pick a finish. Common options include: polished, painted, powder-coated, or chrome plated finish. Feel free to ask one of our professionals which finish best suits your needs.
Give us a call and let our experts guide you to custom wheels to improve your car's looks and your driving experience.

  • Return springs
Parking Brake:
  • Cables
Hydraulic System:
  • Master cylinder

  • Power booster replacement
Your vehicle's brake system is a culmination of over 100 years of technological innovation, transforming crude stopping mechanisms into dependable and efficient equipment. While brake systems vary by make and model, the basic system consists of disc brakes in front and either disk or drum brakes in back. Connected by a series of tubes and hoses, your brakes link to each wheel and to the master cylinder, which supply them with vital brake fluid (hydraulic fluid).
We can summarize all of your braking equipment into two categories, Hydraulics and Friction Material:
Hydraulics
Master Cylinder:
The master cylinder is like a pressure converter. When you press down on the brake pedal (physical pressure), the master cylinder converts this to hydraulic pressure, and brake fluid moves into the wheel brakes.
Brake Lines and Hoses:
Brake lines hoses deliver pressurized brake fluid to the braking unit(s) at each wheel.
Wheel Cylinders and Calipers:
Wheel Cylinders surrounded by two rubber-sealed pistons connect the piston with the brake shoe. Push the brakes and the pistons stop and the shoes pushes into the drum. Calipers squeeze brake pads onto the rotor to stop your car. Both components apply pressure to friction materials.
Friction Materials
Disc Brake Pads and Drum Brake Shoes:
A disc brake uses fluid (released by the master cylinder) to force pressure into a caliper, where it presses against a piston. The piston then squeezes two brake pads against the rotor, forcing it to stop. Brake shoes consist of a steel shoe with friction material bonded to it.
How It Comes Together:
When you first step on the brake pedal, you are triggering the release of brake fluid into the system of tubes and hoses, which travel to the braking unit at each wheel. You actually push against a plunger in the master cylinder, releasing fluid. Brake fluid can't be compressed. It moves through the network of tubes and hoses in the exact same motion and pressure that initiated it. When it comes to stopping a heavy steel machine at high speed, this consistency is a good thing. The performance of your brakes can be affected when air gets into the fluid; since air can compress, it creates sponginess in the pedal, which disrupts consistency, and results in bad braking efficiency. "Bleeder screws" (located at each wheel cylinder) remove unwanted air in your system.
A car without functioning brakes is dangerous. In many cases, warning signs will tell you if your car's brakes may need service.
Warning signs include:
  • Squealing or grinding noises when using brakes. This could mean your brakes need to be adjusted or that your brake pads are worn and need replacement.
  • Your dashboard's Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) light turns on. This indicates that your brake fluid is low. You may have a leak in your brake line. Get it inspected.
  • While braking, your car pulls to one side. This means that your brakes need adjustment, there is brake fluid leakage, or your brakes are worn out and need replacement.
  • Your brakes are hard to press down or feel "spongy." Usually this means air has gotten into your brake lines or you may have low brake fluid.
  • When applying your brakes, your steering wheel, brake pedal, or entire vehicle begins to shake. If this happens, your brake rotors could be warped and need replacement.

Fuel Prices are going up, save this trick in Middletown NY

Service to Improve Fuel Economy

The price of gas in New York has got people in Middletown NY talking.
It seems that Middletown NY folks who need a bigger vehicle to carry family and gear,
or provide four wheel drive, are hit especially hard. That is why we thought it would be good to review some things that anyone can do to improve fuel economy.

First let's start with how we drive around New York. People in Middletown NY may not realize that they can really save on gas by just changing a few driving habits.
One of the biggest is jackrabbit starts - you know, flooring the gas as soon as the light turns green. That really wastes a lot of fuel. Building up your speed at a slower
pace uses less fuel and is easier on your engine and drive train. And don't drive with one foot on the brake. That's also a drag on fuel economy, and it wears out your
brakes faster too.

Another thing Middletown NY drivers can do is drive slower - but only when it's safe. Sometimes on the freeway we drive an extra five ... ten . . . twenty ... over the speed limit.
We do it to save time, but it only saves a few minutes out of maybe an hour long drive, and we may use 10 to 15 % more gas. Just leave a little bit earlier, save some money and
arrive more relaxed.

Middletown NY drivers can also try and combine all of their errands for the day into just one trip, rather than several. If you can put off a trip today that can be combined with one
tomorrow - you can save some time and money.

Using your cruise control can save money too. Driving in New York at a constant speed really improves fuel economy. Be sure to only use your cruise control under safe
conditions - you can look in your owner's manual for some good tips on using your cruise control.

Did you know that reducing the weight in your vehicle saves gas? Clean out the trunk or back seat from time to time so that you are not paying to carry a lot of stuff around
Middletown NY that you do not need in the car. If you live in New York where there is snow and ice, clear it off your car. They add weight and messes with aerodynamics too.

Another tip is to avoid long idle times, which includes warming it up when you start. Modern engines do not require a long warm up to get going - just take it easy for a couple of miles.

Be sure to get a new gas cap if yours leaks or is worn.

Now, let's start talking mechanical. Bottom line - the better you maintain your vehicle, the less fuel you will use. It all adds up in a big way. For example, replacing your dirty engine
air filter will pay for itself in improved fuel economy before your next oil change - and will keep saving you after that.

A clean, well-maintained fuel system really pays big dividends. A clogged fuel filter wastes gas. So does a dirty fuel system, grimy fuel injectors and plugged up PCV valves. A fuel system
service decreases the gas you use, and increases the power - so drivers in Middletown NY can't go wrong with that.

Some of us ignore our Check Engine light. But fixing the problem that caused the light to come on will usually save some fuel as well. It may be a bad oxygen sensor that can really
rob your fuel economy.

And, it may be time for a tune-up. Tune-ups should improve your fuel economy. Don't overlook the routine maintenance items, like scheduled oil changes, transmission and cooling system service. Dirty or low fluids actually use more fuel. Just look at your vehicle manufacturer's recommended service intervals in the owner's manual, or ask your Dolson Auto & Tire Goodyear Discount Tire service advisor for the schedule.

Don't forget your tires. Under-inflated tires waste gas. And if your wheels are out of alignment you won't get the fuel economy you need.

None of these things are very complicated or expensive for people in Middletown NY to stay on top of. When you maintain your car properly, you save gas today, and prevent repairs tomorrow.
