Any window tint law

Not allowed? You can bet on it.

NY State no longer allows any side glass tint on passenger cars. The only exception is if your vehicle is labeled MPV on the vehicle identification sticker. You find the "EPA" or "NHTSA" sticker inside the door.

But there is another exception to have tinted windows. A special approval application can be completed at DMV offices. You may need more information to complete the forms. Once you are approved they will provide you some documents and a window sticker to alert police that your car may have tint. Most likely the registration record will also contain some information. After that you may provide this info to the inspection station beforehand.

Tint meters have shown that most cars are built with glass that already blocks nearly 20% of the light and any tint applied has generally failed the test. The tint meters used are the same models approved by the State and used by police.

Tinted Windows look good, no doubt, however lawmakers have created new law governing this issue to protect our police offices and make life safer for all of us.
